Rusty Jeffers - Training to a Refined Physique!!

Rusty answered a question from the forum of Bodybuilding.com about the differences in training between now and his younger years. Here is Rusty's answer:

"...I have definitely changed my training...normally and for years a Mentzer type of workout, heavy, hard, extremely intense. Balls to the wall for sure. After 3 shoulder surgeries I had to adapt. I do a lot of rubber band work between sets to warm up my shoulders and I warm them up a LOT before I do much or I will just be looking at a day long of pain. I can still train as hard just have to keep them "lubed up" so to speak. I do a lot of light biceps between back movements because I had a bicep tendon re-attached and the Dr. said that's a forever thing. No biggie, the bi's just get an extra pump day. I still squat heavy, don't bench near as heavy..heavy never really did much for me anyway, reps and intensity does. When I trained with Lee we routinely did 50 rep or more sets. Grew a lot, ate a lot...I'm taking a little time off of hard training here now, I'm letting my body rest so I can get ready for something next year, a masters show for sure. I haven't stopped training but I'm not killing myself on a daily basis.

But in answer to your questions, I don't do stupid movements anymore like behind the neck shoulder presses, I train more by feel, really tune in to what I'm doing, find the groove and get the most out of it. I never toss around the iron screaming like I did when I was a lot younger. That's when I really started to get a more refined physique."
